Doctors

In line with our NHS contractual requirement, all of our patients have been allocated a named accountable GP.  The role of your named accountable GP is largely one of overview, and they will take lead responsibility for the co-ordination of appropriate services involved in your care.

There is no requirement for you to see your named GP when you book an appointment. You can choose to see any GP or Practice Nurse, in line with current arrangements.

At times the practice may need to change your named GP, particularly when there are changes to staff.  Please ask at reception if you would like to check who your named accountable GP is.

Our GPs are:

Dr Stephen O’Donnell MB BS (Newcastle 1989), MRCGP, DRCOG

Dr Sarah Astbury MB ChB (Glasgow 1997), MRCGP, DRCOG

Dr Kevin Boxill MB BS (University of West Indies 1996), MRCS, MRCGP

Dr Marcus Foster MB BS (Newcastle 2010) MRCGP

Dr Rakesh Bhalla MB BCh (Cardiff 1982) MRCGP

NHS England require that the net earnings of doctors engaged in the practice is publicised, and the required disclosure is shown below.  However it should be noted that the prescribed method for calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice, and should not be used to form any judgement about GP earnings, nor make any comparison with any other practice.

The average pay for GPs working in Colliery Court Medical Group in the last financial year was £86,137 before tax and national insurance.  This is for two full time GPs and three part time GPs who worked in the practice for more than six months.
